The 2001 BMW E39 M5 is a minor car in The Fast and the Furious series.
Fast & Furious
The BMW E39 M5 featured in Fast & Furious belonged to a street racer named Alex.
During Arturo Braga's race in Koreatown, Alex was tied for first with Dominic Toretto. In an attempt to win, he began to ram the side of Dom's car a couple of times; however, when he attempted to hit Dom again, Dom hit the brakes, cause Alex to hit the median and roll over repeatedly, before going through a bridge railing and landing on the roof below. As the car had rolled an entire street before going through a concrete setting, followed by a hard landing, it is believed that Alex had died.
The car featured in the film is actually a standard E39 5 series that has been modified to look like an E39 M5.
- Around 11 were made, but only 2 survived filming. They had Eibach suspensions and carbon fiber painted hoods, roofs, and trunk lids -- but no other performance mods.
