Baldwin Speedway was a speedway in Southern California. It was also where Jack Toretto was killed during the last stock car season of 1989.

In 1989, Jack Toretto raced against rival Kenny Linder during the final race of that year's stock car season. His sons, Dominic Toretto and Jakob Toretto worked as his pit crew along with Buddy Hubbard. As the laps continued, Jack and other racers took a pit stop where Jakob worked on the hood of his father's stock car. While Jakob worked on the car's hood, Dom argued against Linder about his dirty tactics. Jack then went back on track as the race continued, but as he was racing, Linder raced dirty and bumped onto Jack's car, resulting it going 120 miles per hour and bursting the vehicle into flames, killing him. Dom saw this but is held back by Buddy as he and Jakob watched as their father died in front of them. The race champion was never revealed though it is presumed that Linder wasn't held responsible for Jack's death.
One week later, Dominic and Jakob went back to the racetrack to get any remaining possessions of their father and encountered Linder near the car's wreckage paying his respects. When Linder mocked them about their father, Dom nearly beats him to death with a wrench. This resulted in Dominic serving two years in prison, while Linder worked as a school janitor due to his injuries. Years later, the racetrack was closed down.
Sometime after his release from prison, Dom found out that Jakob tampered with Jack's car and blamed him for their father's death. He then confronted Jakob to a race and that Jakob would leave Los Angeles if Jakob didn't win. Since he didn't win the race, Jakob had to flee Los Angeles, although their sister Mia continued to keep him in contact over the years. What Dom didn't know was that his father was in a lot of debt and that he was planning to lose the race so he would have a better life, only for the plan to fail when he had Jakob intentionally tamper with the vehicle, resulting its explosion just as Linder shunted him.
This resulted Dom and Jakob being enemies as Jakob became an agent of Mr. Nobody, only to go rogue years later after being convinced by Otto to help him steal Project Aries. Dominic eventually revisited the now-defunct speedway where he met Buddy again, who revealed that Jakob is in Edinburgh planning to retrieve half of Project Aries. After Dom and Jakob finally reconciled, Dom took his son Brian Marcos to the speedway where his father competed, telling his past to him.

- Baldwin Speedway is based off (And was filmed at) the real-life Irwindale Speedway at Irwindale, California which opened in 1992, 3 years before this scene was set.
