- "Never accept death when suffering is owed."
- ―Dante Reyes to Cipher
Dante Reyes is a sociopathic mobster, terrorist, and the son of Hernan Reyes. In 2011, his family's money was stolen by Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner, resulting in his father's death and almost his own, which was legal for two minutes. Following this, he vowed revenge on them and observed them for ten years before enacting his revenge.
Dante formed a partnership with Aimes who acted within Mr. Nobody's Agency as a double agent before being made leader when Mr. Nobody disappeared. Dante then put his plan into action, gathering intel on the crew's greatest adversary Cipher to effectively usurp her and seize control of her organization. He then framed the crew as terrorists during a false flag operation in Rome in order to split them up before depleting their bank accounts, leaving them defenseless, and went after Brian Marcos: Dom's son and the main target of his plan.
The kidnapping was botched, but Dante lured Dom to a bridge where he was cornered by two trucks which drove towards him. Dom was able to escape the trucks and drive into a dam below. However, Dante had also rigged the area with explosives which he detonates, with which he intends to kill Dom.
Dante continued his revenge spree and turned his attention on Luke Hobbs, a DSS agent who partook in the team's heist and personally executed Hernan, warning Luke that he will be Dante's next primary target.
Biography
Early Life
- "There is nothing a father wouldn't do for his son. Your mother never understood this. She looked at you and saw a monster. I saw potential. When a bully took your money, you took his eye. When they called you crazy, you took their tongues."
- ―Hernan Reyes
Dante was born to an unnamed mother and Hernan Reyes in Lisbon, Portugal on September 6, 1979 before later residing in Rio de Janeiro, where Hernan became a businessman and developed a mass influence, particularly on the city's criminal underworld. Hernan was a "very bad" dad according to Dante, but he still "kinda liked him". Being a millionaire, Hernan used his money to spoil his son and help him escape the law. Dante served his fair amount of time in various prisons and mental hospitals, although Hernan would always bail him out. Dante later became involved in his father's criminal empire as his primary enforcer.
Losing his Family Fortune
- "When suffering is owed, never accept death as a payment. Make Toretto suffer."
- ―Hernan Reyes to Dante Reyes
In 2011, Hernan became a target of Dominic Toretto after he was setup as a scapegoat for the DEA Train Heist. Dominic, along with Brian O'Conner, Mia Toretto and the rest of their team planned to steal all of Reyes' money from a vault kept in a police station, with DSS agent Luke Hobbs and local cop Elena Neves also joining after the former's team was killed in an ambush staged by Hernan. Dom and Brian enacted on their plan and ripped the vault from the wall using modified Dodge Chargers.
At this same time, Hernan and Dante were in talks to form a partnership with Aimes, who would later continue his association with Dante when he enacted revenge on Dom's crew. As Dom and Brian escaped, Hernan, Dante, Zizi followed them in turreted vehicles with the rest of their men and a contingent of corrupt cops under their payroll. While Dom was taking out multiple corrupt cops on the bridge, Zizi orders Dante and his men to kill the latter with their mini-gun. However, Dom used the vault to knock Dante's car into the water where he was legally dead for two minutes before being revived. At the same time, Hernan was killed by Luke and Zizi was killed by Brian.
After losing his father and family fortune, Dante vowed to get revenge on Dominic Toretto's Crew, and continued his partnership with Aimes who kept surveillance on the crew by joining the Agency where he worked with Mr. Nobody who also employed Dominic and his crew for several missions. For the next decade, Dante kept watch on the Toretto family and their allies.
Revenge against Dominic Toretto
Time to Strike
When Mr. Nobody disappeared and Aimes became head of the Agency, Dante decided that it was the right time to get revenge on Dom and his crew for their actions that cost him everything. Dante first had Aimes setup a fake operation in Rome and tasked Roman Pearce with leading the operation which seemingly involved recovering a supercomputer chip from a convoy that was moving through the city. Tej Parker verified the intelligence and he, Han Seoul-Oh and Ramsey joined Roman on the operation.
Approaching Cipher
- "I am a man with no name. Heir to nothing."
- ―Dante Reyes to Cipher
Thinking that he could form a partnership with Cipher because of their common enemy in Dom, Dante decided to approach her. However, Dante had a backup plan ready in case Cipher refused as he gathered intel on members of her syndicate and kidnapped friends and/or members of their family as bait. With his plan set, Dante arrived at Cipher's headquarters with an offer of a partnership as he asked her for her help in using her tech and crew. However, Dante realized that he and Cipher had different intentions when it came to Dom. Dante then put his backup plan in motion as he revealed to the agents in the room that he was holding their families hostage and that to free them, they must turn on Cipher and kill her. He left with two of her associates and the rest attempted to kill her, which she narrowly avoided and was then arrested after warning Dom about Dante.
Framing the Family
- "Through your suffering, I'll fulfill my destiny. Come find me. Your pain has just begun. I'll see you soon, Dom."
- ―Dante Reyes to Dominic Toretto
Dante then arrived in Rome as he waited for Tej and Ramsey to infiltrate the targeted truck as he locked them in it and triggered multiple explosions, which they were framed for as his associates gave their photos to the police.
Tej then discovered a bomb ball in the rear of the truck, which Dante released into the city after Dom and Letty Ortiz, who discovered the setup, interfered and incapacitated the truck. The bomb rolled through the city, taking out multiple structures as Dom chased after it in his car. Letty chased after Dante on his motorcycle and he attempted to kill Little Nobody by blowing up his car.
Dante then managed to evade Letty, who was arrested by the police, and he watched the city from a lookout point as he detonated the bomb near the Vatican. Dom was able to push the bomb into the water at the last second, lessening its effects but still causing a fair amount of damage to the city as Dante fled and the crew were all framed as terrorists, turning the Agency against them, as they were unaware of Aimes working for him. Dante returned to Rio and his whereabouts were passed onto Dom through Tess, a representative of the Agency and the daughter of Mr. Nobody.
Meeting Dominic Toretto
- "I can't believe I'm gonna race the great Dominic Toretto. I have butterflies. You're just so impressive. You've won so many races. Everyone loves you. You've saved so many lives. I know. It's like you're a... a saint. Saint Dominic. And I've been studying you. And watching you. I can't figure it out. How... how do you choose? How do you choose the ones you save?"
- ―Dante Reyes to Dominic Toretto
Dom followed Dante to Rio and arrived at a street race where he reunited with an old associate, Diogo and Isabel Neves, Elena's sister. Dante was informed of Dom's arrival and he arrived in his 1966 Chevrolet Impala along with his men, challenging Dom, Isabel and Diogo to a street race in which the winner would receive a million dollars. Dante revealed that he gained influence on Rio's criminal underworld and street racing scene before having his followers aim their guns on Dom which resulted in the other attendees, including Diogo, turning their guns on Dante in favor of Dom. Dom accepted the challenge to race, unaware that Dante had his men secure explosives to Isabel and Diogo's cars.
During the race, he told Dom that the issue with having a big family was choosing who to save. He then blew up Diogo's car, killing him, and attempted to do the same to Isabel. However, Dom was able to knock the explosive off her car at the last second. Dante won the race and then fled.
Kidnapping Isabel
- "You know, if you never would have gotten behind that wheel, I'd never be the man that I am today. You built such a beautiful life, filled with love and family. I never got that chance. Collateral damage, chaos, death. This is your legacy. I'm your legacy."
- ―Dante Reyes to Dominic Toretto
The next day, he killed his two associates he stole from Cipher and emptied the Toretto crew's bank accounts to amass a large army of terrorists, mercenaries and bounty hunters, leaving them defenseless. He discovered that Dom discovered his vision board in the old police station where the vault was stolen from and informed Aimes who arrested Dom. During the drive, Dante ambushed them with his henchmen and shot Tess and Aimes, as cover. He stole God's Eye and then attempted to shoot Isabel but Dom defended her as Dante fled. With God's Eye now in his hands, Dante tracked Dom's son to Portugal where he was with Jakob Toretto, who was waiting for Dom's arrival.
Kidnapping Brian Marcos
- "The suffering is over, Dom. It’s time for you to die."
- ―Dante Reyes to Dominic Toretto
Dante sent his men after Jakob and Little B who were traveling in a modified cannon car built by Jakob. Dom arrived in Portugal with the help of Aimes and drove his car out of a plane and landed on the road where Jakob and Little B are. Aimes instrcuted Dom to meet him at an airstrip once he and Jakob were clear of Dante and his henchmen, unaware that this was a trap. Dante was able to kidnap Little B from Jakob's car but lost him when he failed to kill Dom using helicopters. In the meantime, Jakob thanked Dom for helping him get out of his shadow and used the canon car to seemingly sacrifice himself so that Dom could escape.
Dom took the service road as instructed by Aimes but this was revealed to be another trap set by Dante who cornered him on the road with two remote controlled semi-trailers. Using a grenade launcher, Aimes shot down the plane with Roman, Tej, Han, and Ramsey inside, revealing his long time partnership with Dante. Dante revealed that Dom has suffered all he can and now it was time for him to die. He drove the trucks towards Dom's car but Dom drove the car over the bridge and to the dam below where the explosion of the two trucks sent him and Little B into the water.
The two made it to the surface and believed they were safe from Dante. However, Dante had anticipated this and revealed that he planted explosives all around them and detonated them, leaving their fates unknown.
Revenge against Luke Hobbs
Contacting Luke Hobbs
- "The Devil is coming for you... lawman."
- ―Dante Reyes to Luke Hobbs
After his feud against Dom and his allies, Dante called Luke Hobbs, who was on a mission securing an abandoned theatre with his agents. Dante warned Luke he would be going after him and that while Dom drove the car and initiated the heist, Luke was the one who finished Hernan off by shooting him dead, and that he would be going after Luke next. However, Luke was unfazed and defiantly told Dante he wasn't hard to find before crushing the phone.
Personality
- "You want to control the world. I just want to punish it."
- ―Dante Reyes to Cipher
Dante grew up with issues as he was sent prisons or mental institutions due to his violent and sadistic tendencies. Fortunately, Dante was bailed out every time by his father, Hernan Reyes. However, despite all the times his father bailed him out, Dante admitted that he was a bad man but still liked and cared about him nevertheless, as he was devastated when Hernan was killed. Dante enjoys explosions, as he'll use anything that blows up towards his enemies. Dante is also proven to be frequently sarcastic and childlike in some instances, often cracking jokes and acting goofy in the midst of intense situations. One example is when he meets up with Dom for the race in Rio.
After Dom with his crew took everything he had such as his family, fortune, and life, Dante became obsessed with revenge on Dom as he spent years watching and observing them as he waited for the right time to strike. Dante would stop at nothing to get what he wants. Despite his twisted personality, Dante had minor respect for Dom, as he was impressed with his street racing skills and tactics. He also had some form of friendship with Aimes due to a partnership formed with his father.
Abilities
- "They say when you're facing death, your life flashes before your eyes. Are they right?"
- ―Dante Reyes to Cipher
- Peak Human Condition: Dante is in very good shape. He is strong enough to drag two adult men, as seen when he confronted Cipher, and he kicked a pipe to make it fall down on Letty Ortiz's path to slow her down. He is very resilient, as he survived having his skull cracked open by Toretto when he knocked his car off the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge, although he was dead for two minutes. He also laughed off getting punched in the face by Toretto.
- Expert Combatant: Though he normally leaves his henchmen to do his dirty work, Dante proved himself to be skilled in combat, which was demonstrated when he lethally eliminated two members of Cipher's syndicate before confronting Cipher herself. However, he was barely able to hold his own against Dominic, though it should be noted that he was purposefully holding back and even laughed as he was struck in the face.
- Knife Mastery: Dante's weapon of choice is a pair of knives, which he used to quickly cut down one of Cipher's soldiers.
- "He's been 10 moves ahead of us this whole time. How does he do it by himself?"
- ―Ramsey
- Master Tactician: Dante spent a decade planning to make Toretto suffer. He gained resources and influence, as he researched Cipher's soldiers to extort them into working for him, and he told Toretto that he "owned" Rio. He framed his team as terrorists for the explosion in Rome, isolating him and severing his ties with the Agency. He also came up with a plan to trap Toretto. In Portugal, he cornered Toretto by creating a distraction that would force Dominic to use his car and eventually lose it leaving him and his son surrounded, with bombs prepared to be detonated to kill both of them in the process.
- Explosives Mastery: To be added
- "The coding is next-level. I've never seen anything like this. We need more computing power."
- ―Ramsey
- Master Hacker: To be added
- "I met the Devil tonight. Honestly, I always thought it was me. So that was kind of disappointing. He came to my door. He let himself in."
- ―Cipher
- Intimidation: Dante has been referred to as "the Devil" by Cipher and he also referred to himself as such when he threatened Luke Hobbs.
