Don't Go Chasing Lavafalls is the eight and final episode of Season 4 of Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, and the thirty-second episode of the show overall. It was released on Netflix on April 16, 2021.
Summary[]
Deep in lava-filled tunnels under the city, the Spy Racers make one last stand against Moray to stop his evil plan once and for all.
Plot[]
A distraught Layla yells out Tony’s name but receives no answer. Thanks to Tony’s sacrifice, Ms. Nowhere and the rest of his crew get the map coordinates for Moray’s tunnel system. She then tells everyone else to meet her at the big opening where the tunnels converge. On their way there, Gary and Julius mention that they hope Palindrome is safe. Ms. Nowhere wonders out loud, just what Palindrome has done to her former underlings.
Ms. Nowhere and Cisco congratulate Tony on a job well done, but Layla breaks the news to the rest of the crew that they lost Tony. At first they don’t understand what she is saying, as Cisco asks if he is just out of range. But Layla further explains that Tony went over a cliff with one of Moray’s men just as he got the map. Frostee, Echo, and Cisco gasp as the reality of Layla’s words sets in. Layla gets teary-eyed as she vows that when she finds Moray, she will make sure he never makes it above ground again.
At the center of Moray’s lair, Moray tells an imprisoned Palindrome, how the ancients were in tune with the universe in a way that modern people cannot imagine. Palindrome agrees with that sentiment, and mentions how his grandma could tell people what kind of winter was coming by the way her bunions would swell. Moray ignores Palindrome and continues his speech by saying how thousands of years ago, the ancients understood the tides of lava underground, just as well as they understood the tides of the sea. He further states that they correctly predicted the exact moment when lava would reach the surface, and they would in turn sacrifice to the volcano goddess, whom they thought built the Earth. But now in the present day, he is the one that controls the lava, and tells his prisoner that he will be in charge of rebuilding the planet. Moray reveals that his technology will direct the lava through the tunnels he has built to the richest, and greediest parts of Mexico City, and that those who put up walls to keep them out will in turn burn.
Palindrome tries in vain to calm Moray down by at first mentioning how he can see that Moray is really motivated to make a positive change in the world, and he admits that he does have some great points as well. He just wishes that Moray would channel that anger in a more constructive way. All Moray tells his prisoner is that he can tell his complaints to the god of the underworld.
Not long after his big speech, Layla shows up and yells out to Moray, that he messed with the wrong crew. One of Moray’s ghost henchmen cloaks himself and tries attacking him while invisible, but Layla looks on the ground and is able to tell where the henchman is by the footprints he leaves behind on the dirt. The rest of the crew soon arrive, and upon seeing Palindrome trapped, Ms. Nowhere remarks that it looks like the hunter has become the bait.
An all out brawl ensues when Moray orders his henchmen to attack. But Roscoe is able to see through the henchmen’s cloaking and proceeds to bite many of them and take them out in the process. An angry Moray then tells Palindrome if the power of positive thinking can save him, as he pushes a button that begins to lower Palindrome’s cage to the lava pit below. Palindrome remains unfazed as he mentions how he once jumped through fire to stop a rogue astronaut’s launch, so this is nothing for him.
In the lower level of Moray’s lair, Layla mentions how she is pinned in by the ghost henchmen, and asks if Echo can get up there. Echo in turn replies that she is barely getting by. Moray then sends more of his henchmen to attack but one of them stays behind and goes to the machine that stops the cage Palindrome is inside from going any lower. A few seconds later, a still alive Tony yells out that he did it and he has now saved Palindrome.
The rest of the crew cheer at finding out Tony is still alive, and upstairs, Tony tells Moray that is all over. But all Moray tells the young Toretto is that it is just the beginning. His machine fully activates the magma, and Ms. Nowhere and the rest of the crew begin to retreat. Moray for his part yells out excitedly that he has finally done it, and that Mexico City will be reborn by fire. Down below, Tuco yells out to Moray that this is not what the Ocelot King stands for, and that he was terrible manager, so now he is fired.
Layla clears a path for everyone as she throws one of the ghost henchmen into the lava pit. But a few seconds later, the ghost henchman pops out just fired. Amazed, Layla says out loud that she needs to get herself one of those suits for her personal use. She then orders Frostee to get to Moray’s machine and hopefully shut it down. He realizes he will never get over to where the machine is at without his drone suit, which is back in Cisco’s truck. As a result, he climbs down, and has Cisco throw him to where the truck is. It’s a close call, but he is able to get his backpack out and use it to get to where the machine is at. Frostee quickly realizes that there is nothing he can do to stop the machine because the lava is already flowing.
Moray tells everyone to just give up and embrace the new reality because the lambs shall become lions, and the weak become strong. An unfazed Palindrome tells Moray that maybe instead of a lava machine, Moray could sell inspirational calendars. He goes as far as saying he would buy one from Moray.
Tony tries to use the suit he stole from one of Moray’s henchmen but is still unable to. Meanwhile, Layla orders Cisco and Tuco to get in the drilling vehicle and start collapsing the tunnels. She thinks that by doing so, they might be able to stop the lava from reaching Mexico City. Upon turning the vehicle on, a scared Cisco realized they are right in the way of an oncoming lava flow.
With some quick thinking, Gary gets on the cage that is holding Palindrome prisoner, but is unable to immediately get the hatch open. Moray laughs and mentions how now he has two sacrifices instead of one. But is quickly knocked out by Tony who has finally learned how to use the suit, and once again stops the cage from descending any further into the lava pit. Meanwhile, Gary decides to improvise by swinging over to the edge and get themselves out of harm’s way in that manner. Julius also jumps into the cage and helps to swing, but it’s still not enough. It’s only after Ms. Nowhere pressed some buttons that give the three men more chain that they are able to succeed with their plan.
Back with Cisco and Tuco, the two men keep successfully collapsing the tunnels, and Cisco mentions how they might actually be able to keep the lava from reaching Mexico City afterall. Tuco then congratulates his nephew, and tells him he can see why he is such a good spy, because he really knows what he is doing. Cisco thanks his uncle, but points out that all he really needs to do is run into the walls with the drilling machine.
In his lair, Moray once again orders his henchmen to keep attacking Tony and the rest of his crew, because they can’t let the enemies of the new empire survive. Echo and Layla take out two of the aforementioned henchmen, and with the suit’s help, Tony does a backflip and takes out another ghost henchman.
Realizing he is cornered, Moray thanks his henchmen, and tells them that they won’t be forgotten in the new empire. He then uses the superspeed function in the suit and jumps through a lava fall and onto an exit out of the volcano. Tony vows that Moray isn’t getting away from him again and follows after him. Unfortunately, he still doesn’t know how to fully use the suit, and still feels a bit of the heat from the lava on him despite wearing the suit.
Elsewhere, Cisco and Tuco cheer as they collapse the last of the tunnels and realize they have saved Mexico City.
Unfortunately, all the lava is now starting to back up, and Frostee warns everyone that it will soon be filling up the entire room they are in. Tony and Moray continue to fight, and eventually Tony tells Moray to just give since they have collapsed all of his tunnels. So the lava will never reach Mexico City now. But Moray just tells Tony that he will never make it out of the volcano either.
Cisco and Tuco get back to Moray’s lair just in time, and are able to drill an escape route to get everyone out of the volcano. Layla decides to head back to save Tony. Using her car, Layla jumps through the lava fall and successfully rescues Tony while knocking out Moray. The two of them successfully get out of the volcano, and even bring with them Moray.
Outside, help from the agency arrives, and they take Moray in custody aboard one of the planes. Echo then asks Palindrome if he will be arresting them but he says that he is not. Instead, he will be taking everyone back home.
Some time later, everyone once again celebrates their latest victory, and the agency sends another letter. Gary cheers and welcomes Ms. Nowhere back into the agency and hugs her. She then hesitantly hugs Gary back. Echo asks Tuco what he will be doing now that Moray is in jail, and he admits that he doesn’t know. But thanks to all the exposure he got on the Volcanic Tunnels circuit, he has more offers than ever before. He mentions that they should all come with him, because they all have a lot of potential. Unfortunately they turn him down by telling Tuco that spying is his family business now, so he can’t join him in the wrestling one.
Palindrome and Ms. Nowhere talk in private, and he tells that because of her and the rest of her team, he no longer has a perfect record. Now he can’t actually say that he always gets his man. Ms. Nowhere tells him to not feel bad, as he’s not the first hunter to get her in his sights. She then states that in the end, she is just the one that got away from him. Palindrome scoffs and points out that she has not gotten away just yet. As fireworks break out, the two lean in and kiss. A drone takes a picture of them kissing, and just as Gary and Julius aww the moment, the picture strip self-destructs.
Tony once again apologizes to Layla for not listening to her or trusting her on this mission they went into. He admits that he just thought she was not going to stick with them, and it seemed like they were slowing her down. He admits that he will completely understand if Layla wants to bail, because family shouldn’t treat each other like he treated her. He then tells her he is sorry for letting her down.
Layla puts a hand on Tony’s shoulder, and tells him she just drove through lava to save his life. So there’s no way she would leave him now. The two teens then look at each other, and Tony chuckles awkwardly as Layla leans in closer and closer. Frostee asks just what is going on, as Echo and Cisco look on in confusion. Eventually, Layla mentions that now Tony owes her his life, and she will definitely be cashing in on that debt. So now he will wish he had died in the cave with Moray, before she is done with him. The rest of his crew then laughs at Tony's expense
