Death of Father
  +
In 1989, Jakob and Dom worked on their father's pit crew during the last stock race of the season. Jakob worked under the hood whilst Dom argued with a member of rival racer Kenny Linder's pit crew. As Jack raced, his car collided with Kenny's causing him to hit a wall at 120MPH and kill him when his car burst into flames. Dom and Jakob both watched as their father died in front of them.

  +
After the crash, Kenny came to the tracks to pay his respects to their father. However, Jakob told him to leave and after being insulted by Linder, Dom showed up and attacked Kenny, almost killing him with a socket wrench. Jakob watched as Dom was arrested and processed at Lompoc Prison for the attack.

Exiled by Dominic
  +
Over the next two years, Jakob became a popular street racer within LA and won most of his races. Dom, who came to the realization that Jakob was partially responsible for their father's death after being released from prison, challenges Jakob to a race in which if Dom wins Jakob must leave LA for good. Jakob tries to talk Dom out of racing him, but Dom refused unless Jakob reveals that he was the last one to service their father's car. Not wanting to get his reputation ruined, Jakob agrees to race. Dom won and Jakob leaves town and fell under the care of Buddy Hubbard, a former member of their father's pit crew and kept in touch with his sister Mia for a while. During these times, Jakob secretly blamed himself for his father death, but still honored his promise. However, his exile eventually left Jakob embittered for growing under Dom's shadow. Additionally, Dom took Jakob's place in the street racing scene.

  +
Recruited by Mr. Nobody
  +
At some point, Jakob began working for the Agency under Mr. Nobody but went rogue sometime in 2014 when he was convinced by Otto, the son of a wealthy billionaire, to betray Mr. Nobody and steal Project Aries after he met him. Jakob changed allegiances and helped form an organization with Otto as the financial supplier. Otto sent operatives after the creators of the device, who were subsequently killed, to recover the first half of it. However, the device was already recovered by Han Seoul-Oh, who saved the couple's young daughter Elle Lue, from being killed and subsequently went into hiding with her. In the following years, Jakob kept tabs on Dom and his extended family, and whenever they took down several enemies over the years, it paved way for Jakob to take over their territory.

Project Aries
  +
Apprehending Cipher
  +
After devising a plan to steal Project Aries and use it to launch a satellite to take control of the world’s computer systems, Jakob and Otto's agents attacked a plane belonging to Jakob's former employer, Mr. Nobody, that was carrying Mr. Nobody himself and Cipher who had been apprehended by the pair. In addition to that, Mr. Nobody was carrying Project Aries with him. Jakob and Otto extracted Cipher from the plane but were unsuccessful in obtaining Project Aries as Mr. Nobody divided it in two. The plane crashed somewhere in Montequinto, Central America, leaving Mr. Nobody's fate unknown. Mr. Nobody was able to send out an SOS message which was intercepted by Ramsey, who delivered the news to Dom and Letty Ortiz with Tej Parker and Roman Pearce. Jakob and Otto took Cipher to their base of operations and locked her in a glass cage to keep her from interfering with their plan.

Dominic Toretto's Crew travelled to the crash site and were able to find the first half of the device however Jakob and his private army attacked the team. Dom and the team escaped with Project Aries however Jakob was able to steal it from Letty resulting in a chase between Dom and Jakob and the rest of the team. In addition to that, the area was guarded by mercenaries who chased after Dom and Jakob through a field of landmines which they narrowly avoided. Jakob drove his Ford Mustang off a cliff where it was caught by a jet with a large magnet mounted to it, allowing Jakob to escape with the first half of Project Aries.

  +
Meeting Cipher
  +

  +
Jakob returned to Otto’s Base of Operations where he met up with Otto, who was funding the operation. He talked with Cipher who tried to convince Jakob to work with her instead, however Jakob declined, citing that he didn't work for the competition. Cipher and Jakob discussed Jakob's relationship with Dom and she asked Jakob whether he could kill Dom. She then let him know the location of the other half of Project Aries, Edinburgh, and let him know that now that Dom was involved, he had no chance of making it out of this situation alive.

Trapping Dom
  +
Jakob and Otto attended a party at Hatfield House which was hosted by Otto's wealthy family and Dom showed up with help from Magdalene Shaw, coming face-to-face with Jakob for the first time in 28 years. Otto issued Dom a warning by informing him of how powerful his family is. Dom and Jakob nearly came to blows after Jakob made Dom the same offer Dom made him 28 years prior, telling him to get as far away from his world as possible. Otto arrived with Interpol agents and had Dom apprehended. However, the agents were revealed as paramilitaries led by Leysa and Dom was able to get a gun that had Jakob's biometrics imprinted into it so he was easier to track.
  +
  +
Edinburgh Fight
  +
Jakob travelled to Edinburgh to recover the second half of Project Aries. Using an electromagnetic field emitted from a large magnet in the back of a truck, Jakob was able to disrupt security systems and steal the second half. Ramsey, Tej and Roman stole the truck and chased after Otto in his Jaguar XE SV Project 8 whilst Jakob ziplined from building to building but was intercepted by Dom. Dom threw Jakob into a building and the two fought. The fight continued onto the streets of Edinburgh and on top of busses and trucks. Ramsey threw Otto off the road and Dom tackled Jakob onto the truck driven by Ramsey, and Jakob evaded Dom and stole a Toyota 86 and tried to escape. Ramsey, Dom, Tej and Roman chased after him and Ramsey activated the magnet, apprehending Jakob.

Captivity
  +
The team kept Jakob captive in a cell in their safe house and Jakob listened to Han's story about how he survived his attack. Otto infiltrated the safe house with his army and freed Jakob and he revealed that he was the rogue agent who betrayed Mr. Nobody. When Dom told Jakob that he didn't deserve to have the Toretto name, Jakob angrily revealed to Dom and Mia what really happened to their father when he died. He revealed that he tampered with the race car because their father told him to, as part of a plan that went horribly wrong. Their father was going to throw the race, as he was in serious debt. Jakob never told the truth because Jack told him to not say anything of it and he promised their father he wouldn't. Jakob and Otto then kidnapped Elle, the key to activating Project Aries, and took the second half of the device.
  +
  +
Betrayed by Otto
  +
While Otto launched a satellite into Orbit, Jakob had Elle activate Project Aries and they held her hostage in an armoured 16 wheeler whilst driving through the streets of Tbilisi waiting for the satellite uplink to upload. The truck was intercepted by Dom and his team, minus Tej and Roman who had travelled to outer space to destroy the satellite, and Jakob was double-crossed by Otto who revealed he was now working with Cipher. Jakob realized that Otto and Cipher were his true enemies all along. Jakob fought Otto's right-hand man, Sue and was thrown off the truck but he was saved by Dom and Mia. Jakob used Han's Toyota Supra to escape. However, touched by his siblings’ compassion, he redeemed himself by returning to help Dom and Ramsey gain access to the Armadillo after overhearing them struggling to penetrate or stop it. After Otto was accidentally killed by Cipher, who was flying a jet to attack the team, Dom ricocheted the truck into her jet and blew it up, bringing the battle to an end (though a defeated Cipher escaped once more since she piloted the jet in a simulator back at Otto's base).

Making Amends and Escape
  +

  +
Jakob arrived in Dom's Dodge Charger and gave the keys back to Dom. Dom tells Jakob that he was once given a second chance when Brian O'Conner gave him the keys to his Supra and so Dom gave Jakob the keys to his Charger, finally forgiving him for his role in their father's death. Mia promised to keep in touch with Jakob and he left in the Charger to go into hiding from his enemies.
  +
  +
Aftermath of Project Aries
  +
Jakob stayed in hiding for an undetermined amount of time and eventually reconnected with Dom where they established a rendezvous point in Portugal that the team knew to meet at if anything ever went wrong. During his time in hiding, he built a modified 1967 Chevrolet El Camino with canon blasters. After evading his enemies long enough, Jakob came out of hiding and returned to his family, getting a chance to meet his nephew and the rest of the team.

When the crew have bounties placed on their heads by Aimes, Dom asks Jakob to go to LA and save Little B from the incoming enemies who were coming after him. Jakob arrived mid-ambush and helped Mia stop the enemies before revealing that Dom sent him to bring Little B to Portugal. Mia agreed and sent Little B to be with Jakob whilst she returned to Brian and her kids.
  +
  +
Jakob drove Little B in his old 1992 Ford Mustang to a gas station in the middle of nowhere where they changed clothes and created fake passports to travel with. Whilst on the plane, Jakob was given small bottles of liquor from a flight attendant associate of his and used it to power a jet that he had stored in the Cargo Hold of the plane. After fighting off enemies who were sent by the Agency, Jakob and Little B escaped the plane in the jet.

Arriving in Portugal
After arriving in Portugal, Jakob revealed his canon car to Little B and the two used it to escape after being infiltrated by Dante Reyes' henchmen. They used the canons to take out enemy cars and when the mechanism got jammed, Little B climbed out to repair it. But before he could get back into the car, Dante kidnapped him. Dom arrived in Portugal, dropping out of a plane onto the highway below them and was able to save Little B and greet his brother.

As Jakob noticed more enemies enclosing, he made the decision to sacrifice himself to allow Dom and Little B to escape. After thanking Dom for helping him find the light out of his shadow, he blew his car up and hurled it towards enemy cars, which were all engulfed in flames, killing them and sacrificing himself to save his brother and his nephew, much to Dom's and Little B's horror.

"You raised a hell of a son, Dom. Time for me to step out from under your shadow. Thanks for showing me the light."
―Jakob Toretto to Dominic Toretto[src]

Jakob Toretto was the middle child of Jack Toretto, the brother of Dominic and Mia, and a former agent of the Agency under Mr. Nobody. He was exiled from his family by his brother after it was revealed that he tampered with his father's car during the 1989 stock race season at Baldwin Speedway, causing him to crash and die in an explosion.

Jakob grew up in Dom's shadow and always sought revenge for what happened, betraying Mr. Nobody and going rogue to steal a device called Project Aries after he was convinced by his colleague, Otto. Jakob eventually shared the truth about their father's death and after being betrayed by Otto, decided to help Dom's crew deactivate Project Aries. After the successful mission, Jakob was accepted back into his family.

Two years after making amends with his brother, Jakob was called to protect Brian Marcos and bring him to Portugal as he was being targeted by Dante Reyes. During a chase with Dante and his henchmen, Jakob chose to sacrifice himself to allow Dom and Little Brian to escape.

Biography

Early Life

Jakob Toretto was born in Los Angeles, California as the middle child to Jack Toretto and an unnamed mother. In his childhood, he was very close to his two siblings Dominic Toretto, his older brother, and Mia Toretto, his little sister. During his childhood, he helped Dom and his father in building a 1969 Dodge Charger.

Death of Father

In 1989, Jakob and Dom worked on their father's pit crew during the last stock race of the season. Jakob worked under the hood whilst Dom argued with a member of rival racer Kenny Linder's pit crew. As Jack raced, his car collided with Kenny's causing him to hit a wall at 120MPH and kill him when his car burst into flames. Dom and Jakob both watched as their father died in front of them.

Recruited by Mr. Nobody

Apprehending Cipher

Jakob comes face-to-face with Dom

Meeting Cipher

Jakob meeting Cipher

Jakob returned to Otto’s Base of Operations where he met up with Otto, who was funding the operation. He talked with Cipher who tried to convince Jakob to work with her instead, however Jakob declined, citing that he didn't work for the competition. Cipher and Jakob discussed Jakob's relationship with Dom and she asked Jakob whether he could kill Dom. She then let him know the location of the other half of Project Aries, Edinburgh, and let him know that now that Dom was involved, he had no chance of making it out of this situation alive.

Trapping Dom

"The brother you’re looking for... he's from an old life. He's long gone."
"All I see is the same scared little kid that killed our father."
"That's your mistake. The spy game... this is my world."
―Jakob Toretto and Dominic Toretto[src]

Edinburgh Fight

Jakob travelled to Edinburgh to recover the second half of Project Aries. Using an electromagnetic field emitted from a large magnet in the back of a truck, Jakob was able to disrupt security systems and steal the second half. Ramsey, Tej and Roman stole the truck and chased after Otto in his Jaguar XE SV Project 8 whilst Jakob ziplined from building to building but was intercepted by Dom.

Rooftop Chase 10

Dom and Jakob fight

Dom threw Jakob into a building and the two fought. The fight continued onto the streets of Edinburgh and on top of busses and trucks. Ramsey threw Otto off the road and Dom tackled Jakob onto the truck driven by Ramsey, and Jakob evaded Dom and stole a Toyota 86 and tried to escape. Ramsey, Dom, Tej and Roman chased after him and Ramsey activated the magnet, apprehending Jakob.

Captivity

"You know the only good thing to come from Dad dying? If he hadn't, I'd have spent my entire life in your shadow. And now you're gonna spend the rest of yours living in mine."
―Jakob Toretto to Dominic Toretto[src]

Betrayed by Otto

While Otto launched a satellite into Orbit, Jakob had Elle activate Project Aries and they held her hostage in an armoured 16 wheeler whilst driving through the streets of Tbilisi waiting for the satellite uplink to upload.

Jakob and Otto launch a satellite into space

Jakob and Dom make amends

Jakob arrived in Dom's Dodge Charger and gave the keys back to Dom. Dom tells Jakob that he was once given a second chance when Brian O'Conner gave him the keys to his Supra and so Dom gave Jakob the keys to his Charger, finally forgiving him for his role in their father's death. Mia promised to keep in touch with Jakob and he left in the Charger to go into hiding from his enemies.

Aftermath of Project Aries

Jakob stayed in hiding for an undetermined amount of time and eventually reconnected with Dom where they established a rendezvous point in Portugal that the team knew to meet at if anything ever went wrong. During his time in hiding, he built a modified 1967 Chevrolet El Camino with canon blasters. After evading his enemies long enough, Jakob came out of hiding and returned to his family, getting a chance to meet his nephew and the rest of the team.

Dante Reyes' Revenge

Saving Brian Marcos

F10 0395

When the crew have bounties placed on their heads by Aimes, Dom asks Jakob to go to LA and save Little B from the incoming enemies who were coming after him. Jakob arrived mid-ambush and helped Mia stop the enemies before revealing that Dom sent him to bring Little B to Portugal. Mia agreed and sent Little B to be with Jakob whilst she returned to Brian and her kids.

F10 0854

After arriving in Portugal, Jakob revealed his canon car to Little B and the two used it to escape after being infiltrated by Dante Reyes' henchmen. They used the canons to take out enemy cars and when the mechanism got jammed, Little B climbed out to repair it. But before he could get back into the car, Dante kidnapped him. Dom arrived in Portugal, dropping out of a plane onto the highway below them and was able to save Little B and greet his brother.

Sacrifice

"I'm gonna go clear the way. Go get your son."
―Jakob Toretto to Dominic Toretto[src]

As Jakob noticed more enemies enclosing, he made the decision to sacrifice himself to allow Dom and Little B to escape. After thanking Dom for helping him find the light out of his shadow, he blew his car up and hurled it towards enemy cars, which were all engulfed in flames, killing them and sacrificing himself to save his brother and his nephew, much to Dom's and Little B's horror.

Personality

"You know, I used to be scared of cars. After my dad died, I guess I blamed myself. It was tough. I had panic attacks, the whole bit. Heck, I took the bus. Yeah. I think I was just so worried about making mistakes and not being as good as my brother."
―Jakob Toretto to Brian Marcos[src]

Abilities

"East L.A. is a tough enough place to grow up. But it was your brother's shadow that turned you into this. Isn't it? So your whole life, you pushed yourself to be faster than Dom. Smarter than Dom. Stronger than Dom. Tell me, do you hate him enough that it keeps you up at night? Still? All these years later? I should've just hired you instead of coercing your brother a couple of years back."
Cipher to Jakob Toretto[src]

"You got a brother? Who also happens to be some kind of super spy with his own private army, who drives literally like a bat out of hell, who preplanned an aerial jump and landed at the bottom of an airplane? Who does that?"
"Who does that? A Toretto."
Roman Pearce and Tej Parker[src]
 • Expert Driver: Jakob is a master high-performance driver, like his brother.
"I got this car when I was 13. Did the repaint myself. Rebuilt the motor, too."
