Rome is the capital city of Italy and the Lazio region, the center of the Metropolitan City of Rome, and a special comune named Comune di Roma Capitale. It also surrounds the enclave of Vatican City.

Roman Pearce, Tej Parker, Han Seoul-Oh, and Ramsey were assigned a mission in Rome by the Agency to steal a computer chip, with Roman leading the mission. However, unbeknownst to them, the mission was a ruse set by Dante Reyes and Aimes, prompting Dominic Toretto and his wife, Letty Ortiz to set off to Rome and warn the team after Little Nobody stated the Agency wasn't doing any missions in Rome.
After the team discovers a high-tech bomb in a truck, there were locked in by Dante, who remotely controls the truck to kill them and cause mass destruction to the city. Though the team escapes, the bomb is released and rolls down the streets of Rome despite their best efforts to stop it, destroying anything in its path. Dom pursues the bomb as Letty pursues Dante in a high-speed chase, which results in Little Nobody nearly being killed after Dante attaches a bomb to his truck. As the bomb is armed and approaches the Vatican, Dom uses his car to push the bomb into the Tiber River to mitigate the damage caused to Rome. Though successful, the bomb explodes, destroying a small portion of Rome with minimal causalities. Dante soon escapes, with Letty being arrested by the police and transferred to a black site prison in Antarctica owned by the Agency. As a result of the attacks, the other team members are framed as international terrorists and the Agency officially severed their ties with them at Aimes' request.
